The Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) was founded in 1967 and in order to work on solving the most critical environmental problems facing the planet. The EDF has over 1.5 million members and an annual revenue of over 146,000,000. Over 500 people work for the organization in many areas that are part of the biosphere: climate, oceans, ecosystems and health. A multidisciplinary approach is taken to work with other organizations, as well as with business, government, and communities, in order avoid the duplication of work that may have been accomplished by others.
